Bend Weekly Tuesday Nighter Hammerfest Ride Starts In 2 Weeks!

Now that Old Man Winter has begun to release his incessant winter grip on
Bend, the Tuesday night Hammerfest ride can start up again. When does this
annual cycling event occur you ask? As was written in the ancient papyrus
scrolls handed down by our cycling elders many years ago...

"Thine Hammerfest shall commence on the 1st Tuesday post day of the saving
of the daylight." Therefore the ride starts on Tuesday March 14th and
departs promptly at 5:30PM from Sunnyside Sports.

One may then inquire when does the departure time change to 6pm? The next
line of the ancient text reads...

"We shall depart at 6PM thine 1st Tuesday henceforth after the day of
national tithing" or when taxes are due. Therefore the ride time switches
to 6PM on April 18th.

A few thoughts...

- Roads currently are clear of snow (this changes hourly) but filled
with potholes especially heading out towards Shevlin Park. Be mindful.
- Bike lanes however currently SUCK with a ton of cinder/gravel and
occasional snow. Things improve by Tumalo Res. Rd. and hopefully will get
better over the next 2 weeks. I submitted a request to the city for a sweep
but if anyone has any pull with the city, now is the time.
- PLEASE do not cross the yellow line at any time, stop at all stop
signs and obey all traffic laws. Ride hard but smart.
- 1st few rides end at dusk so a blinky light is a plus.
- If I seem to be dangling off the back sucking wind on a climb (when is
this not the case), I have no problems receiving a gentle push (up not
back).

Mark your calendars. Start training.
