This was approved a few years ago by Kenji and goes to Bill Walburton and
myself just to make sure the kid can do 20 miles and has the necessary
talent. Unless they are coming from USAC and have a Cat 1 or Cat 2 license
where we would still want to know them a bit more about them and most
likely say yes. The difficulty is when they come to a race and we have to
make a on the fly decision. I can ask them a few questions based on
experience, race history ect to grant the upgrade with the parents usually
doing the asking.
Quite a few times we don't hit the numbers beyond 10 riders to get this
upgrade except for sisters, Mudslinger and races in the OBRA junior Series
, This is really important for the Women Juniors that are fast enough and
skilled enough to head into the woods and come back safe and sound. Also 14
is the minimum age to Race Junior Expert (Cat 1) racing on the Cat 2
