After taking our traditional mid-series break, we are back for another four weeks of Short Track fun!
Here are a couple updates ahead of tomorrow's STXC Race # 5, which promises to be another one you don't want to miss out on:
1) This Monday, we're going casual!
That's right, it's time for our annual "Summer Casual" Race Outfit Contest, brought to you by Portland Design Works! Leave the spandex at home and come race in your best Summer Casual race outfit. To get an idea of what we're talking about and get some inspiration for Monday, check out the photos of last year's winners:

The three most hilarious outfits in each race heat (*) will win some very cool PDW prizes, including a City/Danger USB Light Set for 1st place, a Ninja Pump with CO2 3-pack for 2nd place, and an Owl Cage for 3rd place. So, get your creative juices flowing and think beyond just cut-off jeans and t-shirts!
To make the Short Track summer party complete, our presenting sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery will come out to serve free samples of their most popular summer ales and longtime series sponsor Nossa Familia will bring out their new coffee cargo bike to serve free iced coffees & iced mochas. And, like every week, kids races will get treated to free post-race juice boxes and our food station will be serving our ever-popular free Dave's Killer Bread PB&J sandwiches.
(*) Judging of the casual summer outfit contest will be done based on the photos we will take during the races and any photos racers or spectators like to submit (just send your best shots to casual@portlandracing.com).
2) Sign up this Monday for the rest of the series and save big!
If you just now discovered how much fun Short Track is (or just late to the game and decided to jump in on the action), we are offering a killer deal for the second half of the series: This Monday, at the race, we will sell "rest-of-series passes" for just $60 for adult racers (or $30 for junior racers)!

4) Hopworks' "First Beer STXC Special" is coming to the Couv!
Choice is good! And to accommodate our many racers from Vancouver, Camas, and anywhere north of the Columbia River, our series title sponsor Hopworks Urban Brewery has decided to now offer their popular "First Beer" Short Track Special on Monday Nights at both the HUB Bike Bar (on N Williams Ave) and at their Vancouver location (on Mill Plain Blvd) throughout the rest of the series. Last but not least, the weather forecast for Monday calls for perfect race weather (sunny skies, highs in the upper 70s, and a nice evening breeze to cool things down) and our course designer - James Ceccorulli - has been brooding on some new course features that promise to keep things fresh. So come on out and bring your friends for another great night of summer bike race fun!

PS: we are still looking for a couple extra volunteers to help with set-up (from 3:15 to 5:15pm) a, to help with lap counting during the 2nd race (from 6:55 to 7:30) and to help with clean up (from 7:30 to 8:45pm), in exchange for a free race entry. If you are interested, just shoot me an email before 11am.
