A couple updates about Sunday's Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic & State Champs p/b West End Bikes...
Call-Up List & Registration
Below is the call-up list with the 210+ racers who already pre-registered for Sunday's races, as well as the top-5 Cross Crusade series finishers in each category, who will enjoy a priority call-up.
You can still get your name added to the call-up list if you pre-register online (at http://obra.org/events/25577/register) before Friday at 5pm.
Race course & Pre-riding
The last days, I've been out at Kruger's Farm with a couple volunteers to dial in a course that will seriously rock. New this year, the course will feature about a half mile of compacted wood chip trails that will substantially reduce the number of grassy stretches (along the main access road and around the main parking area). In addition, Farmer Don dumped some perfectly rideable mounds of wood chips at the entrance of the farm that will make for a perfect launch into the West End Bikes "six-pack" barrier and the subsequent serpentine around the bonfire and through team tent area. Yesterday, uber-volunteer Ron Strasser spent the best part of his day mowing the area in the far western part of the course and cut a sweet double wide path through the covered hoophouse (Thanks, Ronnie!) and this morning Sue Butler came out with her chainsaw to cut up a tree that came down on the course (Yay, Sue!)... now the course might feature an all-new log barrier as well!
Overall, the course is in great shape and even with the rain we have in the forecast for the next 2 days, I am confident that it will be very rideable AND fun... Yes, there will be plenty of mud to content with but *hey* this is cross!

I'll post more course updates in the next couple days on Instagram and Facebook, but if you really want to know what the course will be like and what tires/gear you want to run, you are welcome to come out on Saturday to pre-ride. We should have everything marked by Saturday 2pm. Like at other races, we will also have regular course preview breaks between the races on Sunday.
Mechanical Support and Pit
Our presenting sponsor West End Bikes will be on site to provide free mechanical pre-race support. The course will feature a 2-way pit area where you can stash spare wheels, spare bikes or any other gear you like to have access to. The pit will be staffed by an OBRA official, but won't feature mechanical support or free wheels.
Parking & FREE Car Camping
While the parking is in much better shape than it was at last year's SSCXWCPDX, we ask everyone to drive carefully in the designated parking areas to keep things from getting worse and help us maximize the available parking space by following the parking marshals' directions, only put up tents in the designated areas (see course map), and - if possible - carpool with friends (it will save you the $5 parking fee). For those racers and spectators who come out the day before from outside the Portland area, you are welcome to car-camp for free anywhere in the designated team tent areas. If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.
PDW Doggie Dash & Islabikes Kids Cross races
If you have a dog of the friendly kind who loves to rump through the mud, don't forget to bring them with you on Sunday! Portland Design Work will be hosting the 6th edition of our ever-popular Doggie Dash CX Championship, a free and all-for-fun race for our four-legged friends (on leash and sans bikes) on a shortened section of the race course. As usual, this race will feature 4 categories: Open Co-ed, Masters (10yrs+), Clydesdale (>50lbs), and Lapdogs (<15 lbs). Kids will also get to enjoy their own races on a separate kids course, ran by the fine folks of Islabikes.
No need to pre-register for either race. Just show up at the PDW tent (for the dogs) and the Islabikes tent (for the kids), sign a waiver, get a free bib number, and you're all good to go!
Volunteer, pretty please!
We are still in need of a couple more people to help out as course marshals (throughout the day on Sunday) and could use a couple extra hands to help with clean-up at the end of day. Either task if pretty straightforward and doesn't require any previous experience. Plus it's fun and good karma!
