training advice during vacation

Take the time to relax and chill out, you wont lose much fitness if you eat
right, dont drink too much and get good night sleep.

Leading up to vacation like that I try and get in a big block of training
and use the vacation as a planned rest period.

Dont be alarmed if you weigh a bit more, but I try and cut calories a bit
and stay on track.

I went on vacation for two weeks after Baker City and didn’t work out at
all. I did some hiking and rafting with the kids but nothing structured.
Came back, have been performing the best I ever have, and added about 200W
to my peak power. So sometimes rest really is the best thing for you.

Yeah, do some jogging, stretch, etc. It's okay to take some "active
rest" for a while. The key thing is not to stress about the fitness you
think you are losing. When you get back, you will probably find you are
rested and ready to attack after a day or two of getting back up to
speed. Relax. Don't worry about it.
The family I can't help you with. They won't understand.

Hello wise OBRA members,

Can anyone share experiences or advice about how to not lose too much
fitness while on vacation without a bike?

I've been working hard to get myself in racing shape and I'm feeling
great... But now I'm about to leave town for 10 days. I won't have my bike
and I'll be in vacation mode with my fam.

My question is: What do you recommend to maintain fitness in this
situation? Anything specific you've done? Have any good web links to share?

I figure I'll do some running (will be near a beach), lots of
stretching/yoga... (I don't expect to be in a place with a Spin bike BTW).
I'd love to know any other good cycling-specific strength tips that can be
done without a bike.

Thanks for any advice.
