*Advanced Dungeons & Dragons*[edit

]

The *Advanced Dungeons & Dragons* 1st edition *Player's Handbook*
"Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" redirects here. For the "Community
" episode, see Advanced
Dungeons & Dragons (Community)
.

An updated version of *D&D* was released between 1977 and 1979 as *Advanced
Dungeons & Dragons* (*AD&D*). The game rules were reorganized and
re-codified across three hardcover rulebooks, compiled by Gary Gygax
, incorporating the original
*D&D* rules
and many additions and revisions from supplements and magazine articles.
The three core rulebooks were the *Monster Manual
* (1977), the *Player's
Handbook * (1978), and
the *Dungeon Master's Guide
* (1979). Major
additions included classes from supplements like assassin
, druid
, monk
, paladin
, and thief,
[4]

while bard ,
illusionist and ranger
, which had
previously only appeared in magazine articles, were added to the core
rulebooks.

Later supplements for *AD&D* included *Deities & Demigods
* (1980), *Fiend Folio
* (another book of monsters
produced semi-autonomously in the UK - 1981), *Monster Manual II
* (1983), *Oriental
Adventures * and *Unearthed
Arcana * (1985), the latter
of which mostly compiled material previously published in *Dragon
* magazine,[5]

and
others.

I've posted thumbs up for AFLAC before: Given that many of us have (very) high deductible "health" insurance AND participate in multiple activities (skiing, climbing, cycling, etc.) that have potential for injury, I think AFLAC is well worth it - especially if your employer helps cover the cost as a benefit.

AFLAC pays on a "menu" basis -- as in, the more bones you break they more they pay. And if you are really laid out, it will even cover things like yard work or house cleaning while you recover.

We've had a couple of AFLAC claims the last few years; when my wife badly broke an arm in a fall on Rainier, and after my bike vs car when AFLAC paid enough to cover ALL of my deductible plus about $1,000. AFLAC was very easy to work with.

It's not a replacement for "health" insurance, and it's certainly not good way to make a profit (ask me how I know). But it definitely helps takes some of the sting out.

realized I should specify, as far as I know bike racing/training do not fall under Hazardous Activities, and ARE covered... here are the Limitations/Exclusions as copied from my policy:

HAZARDOUS ACTIVITY ACCIDENT: an accident, occurring on or after the Effective Date of coverage and while coverage is in force, while a Covered Person is participating in sky diving, scuba diving, hang gliding, motorized vehicle racing, cave exploration, bungee jumping, parachuting, or mountain or rock climbing; or while a pilot, officer, or member of the crew of an aircraft, having any duties aboard an aircraft, or giving or receiving any kind of training or instruction aboard an aircraft. A Hazardous Activity Accident does not include any Common-Carrier Accidents.

LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS
A. Aflac will not pay benefits for services rendered by you or a member of the Immediate Family of a Covered Person.
B. Aflac will not pay benefits for treatment or loss due to Sickness including (1) any bacterial, viral, or microorganism infection or infestation or any condition resulting from insect, arachnid, or other arthropod bites or stings; or (2) an error, mishap, or malpractice during medical, diagnostic, or surgical treatment or procedure for any Sickness.
C. Aflac will not pay benefits whenever coverage provided by this policy is in violation of any U.S. economic or trade sanctions. If the coverage violates U.S. economic or trade sanctions, such coverage shall be null and void.
D. Aflac will not pay benefits for an Injury, treatment, disability, or loss that is caused by or occurs as a result of a Covered Persons:
1. Participating in any activity or event, including the operation of a vehicle, while under the influence of a controlled substance (unless administered by a Physician and taken according to the Physicians instructions) or while legally intoxicated (legally intoxicated means that condition as defined by the law of the jurisdiction in which the accident occurred);
2. Using any drug, narcotic, hallucinogen, or chemical substance (unless administered by a Physician and taken according to the Physicians instructions) or voluntarily taking any kind of poison or inhaling any kind of gas or fumes;
3. Participating in, or attempting to participate in, an illegal activity that is defined as a felony, whether charged or not (felony is as defined by the law of the jurisdiction in which the activity takes place); or being incarcerated in any type penal institution;
4. Intentionally self-inflicting a bodily injury, or committing or attempting suicide, while sane or insane;
5. Having cosmetic surgery or other elective procedures that are not Medically Necessary;
6. Having dental treatment except as a result of Injury;
7. Being exposed to war or any act of war, declared or undeclared; or
8. Actively serving in any of the armed forces, or units auxiliary thereto, including the National Guard or Reserve.

Hit me up if you would like any other specifics!

I have the Aflac personal accident insurance... it's not super cheap, $20 per paycheck, but it covers all kinds of crazy stuff, from dislocated joints, fractures, concussions, to x-rays, hospitalization, surgery, etc... I have yet to use anything except the wellness benefit ($60 per year if you go to the doctor, basically)... but like knowing I have something just in case...

I think people have posted about this before, so I apologize.

I'm wondering about AD&D coverage. It's cheap, but like a lot of things that are inexpensive... is it really worth it? I'm guessing that accidents during racing might not be covered, but accidents while training probably would be, right?

That said, you have to have a pretty significant loss, like losing an eye or something, to even trigger half the coverage, correct?

So, bottom line, is it really worth it? I mean, I could spend that money on an extra triple soy latte every month. :)

Thanks in advance!
