*Notes about the Franz Bakery Criterium*

*Sponsors*

Thank you to our sponsors: Franz Bakery, Portland Rock Gym, Impress
Printing, Europa Velo, Ironclad, Ninkasi, Madison’s Grill, Solid Core
Training and Diamond Law Cycling. Without the support of these sponsors and
the cooperation of all the neighbors along the course, this race would not
be possible. Thank you!

*Upper Echelon Criterium and Cornering Clinic*

Registration of the clinic will be at the same location as the race

the parking lot at NE 8th and Flanders. The clinic starts at 1:15pm.

*Volunteering*

We have been contacted by several people regarding being volunteers at the
event. As of Tuesday, the volunteer schedule is full. We are not accepting
any additional volunteers at this time. **

*Kiddie Krit*

The Kiddie Krit is free to all participants. Kids up to the age of 12 may
participate. Parents must fill out a waiver for their kids and sign them in
prior to the start of the Kiddie Krit. The Kiddie Krit will be immediately
following the Women’s Cat 4 race. Participants will do two laps of an
abbreviated course. They will start at the start/finish follow the course
around corners 1 and 2. Then before turn three, the kids will turn at NE 9
th and Glisan and then again at NE 9th and Flanders back toward the
start/finish.

*Parking*

There is parking around the outside of the course. Please do not park on
the east side of NE 11th Ave just north of corner two. This parking is
reserved for Vic Alfonso Cadillac. Also, there will be no event parking on
Flanders between NE 11th Ave and NE 12th Ave.

*Warm-up*

The course will open for warm-up at approximately 2:40 p.m., 10 minutes
after we officially close the roads. As we complete set-up prior to the
first race, please be courteous to those volunteers working to set-up the
course.

*Wheel Pit*

Wheels in/wheels out. There are not any neutral wheels for this event.

*Race Numbers*

Numbers on the left.

*Race Format*

This is a criterium with a points race style. The winner of every lap will
earn 2 points (and $5) toward their overall point total. The final lap will
be scored 15 riders deep (30-25-22-19-17-15-13-11-9-7-5-4-3-2-1). The rider
with the most points at the end wins the race. Ties in points will be
broken by placing in the final sprint.

- Every lap is worth $5 to the winner of the lap, who will also receive
two points to their overall point total.
- Prizes will be 3 deep for Women Cat 4, Men Cat 4/5, Masters 40+ and Men
Cat 3 races. Prizes will be 5 deep for Women Cat 1-3 and Men Cat 1-3.\

*Course Report*

The course is 1.13km long, features 8-corners and 40’ of vertical climbing.
Corners 3, 4 and 5 form a quick “S” type turn that sweeps downhill. The
roads are wide and the pavement is excellent. After corner 5, the descent
is shallow before corner 6 where the course changes to a shallow climb. At
corner 7, the road goes upward in a modest hill toward corner 8 and the
finish straight. The finish line will be a short dash from corner 8, only
about 50 yards from corner to finish line.

The only questionable road is NE 11th between Flanders and Glisan. The
pavement is cracked in several locations, but certainly rideable. In corner
one, the race course will narrow to accommodate working vehicles parked by
Franz Bakery and one by another local business. Other than that, the course
is wide streets and good pavement.

*Diamond Law Cycling Team*

We want to thank the Diamond Law Cycling Team who will be providing the
majority of volunteers for this year’s event. A special thanks to Daryl
Hemenway for coordinating volunteers for course-set, marshalling and tear
down.

See you all Saturday!
