Foremost, my sincere thanks to the racers, volunteers, and Officials without who's help OUCH would not be possible.. The support and kind words go beyond what we expected would happen trying to just put on an event.
Sans one issue, the event was great, we had a blast and I must commend myself for the excellent weather I was able to provide everyone who attended. The viewpoint was clear and breathtaking to all who made the extra 300m journey after a lovely 16.1 mile jaunt.
Updates: A revised finish list for the Cat 4/5 list is below. Sorry, we missed a riders and his time.
A copy of the BPTT and LMTT results with series updates will make it to the OUCH page soon so check back later on.
Any feedback or comments about any part of the event, series, race, or the issue noted below, please feel free to let me know. Suggestions and thoughts are always welcomed.
A note about our one issue:
For those that are not aware, at 7:30am on race day a rider who had not seen the course decided to pre-ride it up to the top. He returned to the staging area just as the first riders were leaving. He saw and noted nothing unusual on the road.
However, as riders were warming up on the road to the West of school (opposite the course) they returned to the staging area to note that tacks had been spread all over the shoulder. These are not push pins, but thumb tacks which stand up and caused several flats.
Then several riders returned from about a mile up the course noting there was another 'tack field' along the shoulder. By the time riders returned from the summit yet another 'tack field' was found on the trip down the hill.
We do not anymore details at this time, but will be working with the community to attempt to review this. Several of our pre-event signs had also been taken down. While these things look unkindly on a community that ironically realizes tourism is a major part of their local economy, we too must remember that at all times we are ambassadors of our sport. One pedestrian walking his dog while pushing a jogging cart that was holding his daughter felt that two riders on the wrong side of the road came too close to him without enough of a warning. He could not tell if they were racers or not, but to him, we were all just cyclists. I do not know yet the outcome of this either but will keep those interested in knowing updated.
Regardless of that: OUCH has been fun and BPTT was a success. Everyone noted the best weather in years, and good times had by all. My thanks and gratitude again to everyone who has taken part in and made this a reality.
Best wishes and good luck the rest of the season and at the District Hillclimb Championships Sunday August 31st at a little hill called Mt. Hood.
