Randy,

I believe we do need to continue timing mt. bike races.

Most of the mt. bike races this year released results in a timely

manner.(sometimes that night)

It seems to me there are just a few promoters that are over committed time

wise, or do not have the same organizational skills, or do not have the

commitment to put on a race the way most mt. bike races are.

I know you had a problem with your computer, this is just a response to your

question about timing or not timing mt. bike races.

Thank-you,

David Baker

Hello

I would like to address and explain some things in regard to the Mt Bike

series.

First off I am truely sorry about the delay in my State

Championships results. My computer caught on fired the

night before the State Championships...I scramble to get

a computer for the race...a person down the street used his

for results, problem was he sent results in a file that could

not be read and then with in a couple days he was called

to fight a forest fire...ALL THIS TIME I THOUGHT THE RESULTS

HAD BEEN TURNED IN!! It was not until I got a call week half later

about results, as I said I had no computer...I was shocked and called people

right away, by then thankfully Candi found someone to read the results file

I am truely sorry I really did think results we posted

PLEASE in the future call me 541-782-2388

As far as the series I finally had a chance to get on a

computer and I read with interest what people were saying on OBRA topica

Couple quick facts

The number of racers in the Mt Bike Series has grown 3 years in a row and

is up already this year from 2002.

There is NO STRANGLE HOLD...anyone can put on a race, as Candi will tell

you OBRA allows any race with the right paperwork and fee's...the series

is open to new events too...we added Kevin's 4th Firecracker race this

year...the series was started so people wouldn't have to decide bewteen

more then one event on the same day and so racers could hit all the races

without worrying about missing another race. However not to confuss people

we can not add events after the flyer is posted.

Most people feel the series great...yes we make mistakes, yes events are

late, but things have gotten better. My race was late

because it rained hard the night before and needed

to make sure the course markings were ok...it worked

we had to fix some things and NO ONE GOT LOST!

FEE's....the fee's have stayed the same or in the case of JR's and Beg

classes they were lowwer...I personally thing there should be a $5 max

late

fee, but others disagree.

If your going to compare road vs mountain results

Please also remember

1 Most road races are not timed

2 Don't have Candi onsite

3 Mt Bike has 37 catagories

4 No pull tags in road

5 Racers are more spead out...in some cases racers are 4 hours apart

6 Most road races don't track beyond 15th palce

7 Most Mt Bike Events don't have computers onsite, so it is the next day

before they can work on results

8 Many Mt Bike Racers are out there to have FUN more then win

Next year will be the 5th year on the Oregon Mt Bike Series and we hope to

do some big things with the series.

I know there will be atleast 2 stage races, we hope to get 4

so we can have a mini stage race series with in the series.

As always we are looking at ways to improve the series and

one of the major things is timing...It would be much quicker

if we did the same as road and did not time events...is this something

people would like or not???

Another thing

Clif Bars and SHOT cost $1-1.50

Beer $2.50-$4.25 depending on the bar

Hansen's $1.50-$2

When you add that up over nearly 30 XC, DH and fun rides

that is tens of thousands of dollars the racers get each year.

Please feel free to contact me, as I said I am computerless

for now, but I can now check my e-mail every couple days.

Take Care

Randy
