    Subject: Cherry Pie Officials

    All,

Norman Babcock, Cherry Pie Road Race promoter, has asked me to chief his

race this year. I accepted. And I'd love the opportunity to work with you

guys again. Please let me know by Friday, January 23, if you're interested

in officiating CP on Sunday, February 15th.   The course, the staging, the

start time - just about everything - will mirror last year. Go to

http://www.eugenecyclingteam.com/cp/default.htm for race details.

The race fielded 137 Cat1/2/3 Men and 97 Cat 3/4/5 Men last year. I

prefer two officials for field sizes that approach or exceed 100,

particularly for a race like Cherry Pie, because all the fields (except

Juniors) are on the course concurrently, increasing the probability of

needing to safely neutralize and move fields around each other. I realize

the recommended field size limit is 100, but I think the CP course can

adequately handle extra riders. But I may decide to actually establish a

cap this year.

So, we need 8 road refs and a Judge, assuming the Junior road ref is

willing to run one of the Women's races. Norman and I will ask the Chief

Judge to separate, if possible, the Cat 3 Men who choose to race in the

1/2/3 event. This may get more 3's to move to that field, thereby reducing

the 3/4/5 field size. This would also give the 3's upgrade points they would

not receive by racing in the 3/4//5 race. Norman recognizes that this extra

effort might require a second judge, and he's willing to perform that role

if the Chief Judge agrees.

    The races are:

    1. Juniors

    2. Men 1, 2, 3

    3. Men 35+

    4. Men 3, 4, 5

    5. Men 45+

    6. Women, 1, 2, 3, 35+

    7. Women 4, 40+

You're welcome to request which race you want to work. Let me know.

Any non-officials on this distribution list want to volunteer to ride with

an official and learn the ropes?

Also, we'd really like Terri to Judge again for us this year. Did you

hear that Terri? Norman promises you your own personal heater in the OBRA

truck, plenty of warm beverages, and bouncers to wrangle the riders and

spectators who hound you for race results and who get in the way of the

finish camera. : )

    Cheers,

    Ted

PS - I'm still trying to find email addresses for everyone following our

corporate migration to Outlook and XP. Anybody know if Paul Schwyhart has

an email account yet?
