Officials for Mountain Bike Events

FISCHER,JAMES (HP-Corvallis,ex1)

I sent a message a while back asking for folks to contact me if they were

interested in working as officials at mountain bike events.

Two people have responded.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that we get a crew of 6-10 dedicated officials around

Oregon to help with the dozens of mountain bike events going on from March

through Sept. We really need YOUR help!

Several things to think about:

1.) Promoters are required to pay dedicated officials to work every event.

(If officials choose to waive fees, say in trade for their SO, or child

racing for free, that's up to them and the promoter.) Fees generally cover

mileage, food, lodging (if required) and $50-$100/day.

2.) If each promoting organization had a trained official, they could trade

working events amongst themselves, learn about how events are run at other

venues, and potentially avoid fees charged by the few dedicated officials we

currently have.

3.) Racers should not plan to officiate events in which they are racing.

4.) Training for officials is free, and will be held in Corvallis on

February 28th.

Please contact me if you would like to help out.
