You would normally race under one standard XC and one DH category. For
example, you may race expert cross country, and sport DH. You may ALSO race
SS as you like, at the XC events. This would be a third plate, normally.
However, since you have an expert (yellow) XC plate already, you don't need
a new one. Just register in the SS class.
Your points, however, are not additive. Expert XC points are not added with
your SS points for BAR.
If you are a beginner XC racer, and wish to race SS, you will need another
plate, and will most likely be racing the expert course. You are not scored
against the experts, however.
I will send out something via e-mail, and will post something to the web for
the racers so this is a little clearer. Look for something this weekend.
Randy's comment about talking to the promoter (the huddle) is the best.
OBRA doesn't care how far you race. If the organizer receives requests to
have the SS ride the kiddie course, they can make that change if they like.
Likewise, if the Expert course is 40 miles, with 15k feet of vertical, and
the SS still wish to leave their kneecaps on the trail, the organizer can
make the call to have them race up or back with the Sports.
Ain't this grass-roots flexibility great?

Jim Fischer

Subject: RE: [OBRA Chat] Attn Singlespeeders
What was I thinking? I converted my only possible race bike into a ss.
Therefore, when I race this year it will be ss. I guess I jump from
Beginner directly to Expert. It is no big deal to me. I am not
expecting any great victories in any category.
Question: If I race in the proposed SS class, does that also
automatically elevate me to the elite level? Could I still race in the
general Sport class without any SS designation if I chose to?
Bottom line: I don't really care what the outcome is, even as a newbie
ss. The most important thing for me is burritos after the race.

Singlespeeders,
I would like to find out how much interest there is in petitioning
OBRA
promoters to have the singlespeed class race with the experts instead of
the sport riders.
Last year in most of the races the top singlespeeders were faster than
the sport riders, and it seems that most of us would be quite capable
of racing a longer course. I, and a number of you that I have talked
to, would be happy to do 2+ hr races. Last year's state championship
was 1:08 - that's not a lot of racing for the money.
My questions are:
1. Would you prefer to race the sport or expert course
2. If races were on the expert course, would you not race? 3. If
races were left on the sport course, will you not race? (a few people
I have talked to, I included are considering this)
Come on folks, we are supposed to be hardcore - lets do some real
distance.
