As promoter for the Cherry Pie race, I agreed to pay $150.00 for the OBRA

wheels, and we got about $125.00 worth of donations. For equipment costs I add

that to $1.40 per rider for OBRA fees, $1.00 per rider for insurance, $50.00 to

use the thousands of dollars worth of equipment, $35.00 to load the truck.

What I got of it was actually less wheels for the racers, and a zillion more

questions from riders.

My suggestion is that the OBRA wheels are still brought to each race, riders

still bring an extra set, and the "neutral" wheels are distributed to the

juniors, cat 5, and other fields that may not normally have an extra set. To pay

for the wheels tack on to the per rider for road races, and crits.

It is true that people flat, get a new wheel, and get back in the race.

Officiating races I see many racers get back "on." My guess is maybe 25% of the

time, even higher in stage races where teams work together better.

The wheels are a great deal, and it adds a professional element to Oregon

Bike Racing. Bring your extra set, and hopefully you won't need em.

Thanks for everyone coming out to the race, and especially the great weather.

The event was a fund raiser for the Harrisburg High School Athletic

Department who had taken severe cuts this year. They did a great job in driving and

getting all those cars parked.
