I agree with a masters division, as a first year racer of 66 it would
be great if we had our own groups say 50 or 55+. I also feel it would
be much safer.
I was looking back at previous years results and the 45+ category is just a
couple years old. The Cherry Pie had 40 people in the 45+ group and I would
expect it to keep growing. So I think in a few more years you might
possibly see more breakdown in the Masters fields. But I love the larger
fields. For instance, that hill in the Cherry Pie breaks the field up pretty
good. In years past I've riden the rest of the ride by myself. This time I
had several folks to form a chase group with. It was really fun.
Regardless of where you finish, if you can work with several other riders of
similar ability to a common goal, that's what racing is all about.
My personal suggestion once the numbers support it, would be to have a 45+
Cat. 3 and better and a 3,4,5 group.
