This is a good discussion. Larry Hopkins certainly has a lot of

experience with problems relating to ultra endurane riding. Most of us

do not ride/race for such distance and time. Cramping is in most cases

due to a combination of the loss of both fluids and electrolytes and

other minerals. Sometimes, it is a matter of simply changing the

concentration of a sport drink of the sports drink itself. No drink

should contain more than 6-10% of solutes in order to get absorbed. One

racer friend was usuing a high protein drink during races and cramping

terribly. I suggested he switch to Cytomax during the race and his

problem went away(last I heard). The take home here is that what works

for one person with one problem is not necessarily the answer for

everyone. Calcium supplements or potassium ones are not to be taken in

huge quantities by everyone. Problems can arise like kidney stones or

other kidney problems if you're not careful and have any predisposing

medical concerns.

Yes, I have also had good success with Calcium Magnesium Potassium as

well as the Calcium\Potassium I mentioned earlier.
