Paying a $300 deposit would also help get the radios back......

This would be an excellent idea for the race organizer, especially for

frequently lost items like radios. Race organizers would need to do this.

OBRA already charges for lost equipment including a restocking fee. This

should provide an economic incentive for the race organizer to make sure

that equipment doesn't get lost. Unfortunately the check out process for

radios is generally "Go get one out of the box". Usually no one even knows

who took radios out much less whether they returned them or not.

When I was at the Tour of El Salvador, the organizer held passports as

hostage for the timing transponders. Perhaps some type of collateral is in

order to ensure return of equipment such as radios.

It is extremely critical that we get these back as they are in short supply.

The car mount FRS/GMRS radios are no longer being manufactured. Although

OBRA will charge the race organizer for the lost radios this will not help

replace them since there are none to buy. As the number of car mount radios

decreases we will be forced to use handheld radios in the cars and they do

not transmit as well.

For some reason it appears that there are some people, particularly at

larger races, who act as though radios and other OBRA equipment are

disposable, available for them to take or are somehow cost free. This is

distinctly NOT the case. If you have the radios that Brad asked about or

any other OBRA equipment make sure that you see that it gets returned ASAP.

The race organizer, who will save money by not getting charged for the lost

equipment, will be very appreciative. The organizer of the next event that

will need the equipment, which is generally only a day or 2 later, will also

be appreciative.

Hello,

We are missing a couple of OBRA's car-mount Motorola radios that were loaned

out to team directors prior to the first stage of the CCC. If you still have

one or know someone who does please contact me asap.
