Hello skaters,
I wanted to update you on our latest club event - the Mountain View Speedskating Club in Vancouver will be hosting the U.S. National Short Track Speedskating Team for a training camp July 27-31.
The team will be doing off-ice training at the Nike Beaverton campus, and will be skating practice sessions daily at the Mountain View Ice Arena in Vancouver. I thought this might be of interest to you, since this team represents the U.S. in World Cup competitions in Europe, North America and Asia, and will be trying out for the Olympic games to be held in Torino, Italy, in February 2006. They are some incredibly hard-working athletes. The list of 16 skaters attending the camp includes 2002 Olympic medalists Apolo Anton Ohno and Rusty Smith.
Of course having them in town for a few days will give the skaters in local speedskating clubs an opportunity to see the best in the country. We have planned an open practice session at Mountain View Ice Arena for Saturday, July 30. The National team will be on the ice from 4:15-5:15pm, and then during the 2nd hour they will welcome local club members (and current U.S. Speedskating members) onto the ice for a joint practice session. I hope you can come by and watch these impressive athletes as they prepare for the 2006 Olympics.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks -
Linda Jellison
