Co-Motion Northwest Time Trial Series
Results for July 23, 2005
Wow, the new course in Trout Lake was something to see! Twenty six racers
braved the drive, the unknown and the inertia of summer to attend the fifth
Co-Motion Northwest Time Trial--and they were rewarded with some great racing
and awesome prizes~
Overall stud and all around great guy David Zimbleman (Excel Sports) kicked
some serious booty today with a blazing 1:01:15--a full 03:27 faster than the
next mere mortal. Can you say FAST?! According to an elevation profile
dropped off to the registration table pre-race, this route has about 2300 feet
of climbing (and descending!)....Coming back from a win at Nationals,
Zimbleman is a close second to Pablo Espinosa (Benaroya Research Inst.) for the
overall win in the 1,2 Group.
Jay Freyensee (Easton/Specialized/LGBRC) continues to steamroll through the B
group Cat 3's this month. With the second fastest time this month, Jay is
poised to win the B group overall and have a shot to win the series Grand
Prize, a Co-Motion Espresso Frameset. Jay is aiming to beat Zimbleman next
month...will he be the man to unseat the champion?
Racing newcomer, Matt Neff, stunned the 4,5's with a stunning 1:06:11--almost
two full minutes ahead of C group points leader Kenneth Philbrick (Aurora
Cycling) of Seattle, WA. Darrin Beek lost his purchase on points this month
when a long business trip and 15 hour trip back to PDX left his legs a bit
slower than usual. Next month should be exciting if we can get Neff to return to
defend his first place finish--and if Beek races up to his usual
caliber--Philbrick will have to leave it all out there to be in the running for the big
show.
With the last minute date change upset was in the air for the Masters
Men....Kent Peterson (EWEB Windpower) and Paul Qualtere-Burcher (EWEB Windpower)
both lost their stranglehold on points in the Masters, eclipsed by Jay
Rideout-50+ (South South Tri) and Kevin Nichols-40-49 (Excel Sports). Nichols has
been shooting for the Co-Motion frameset since last March--the man will not be
denied! EWEB will have to bring some extra racers this month if they want to
take back the lead in the series points totals...I see this as another
hotbed of competition next month.
We had two very strong women out this month, Erin Hale (Chinook Cycling Team)
and Mechele Knable (Columbia River Velo). I hope to see all of the women
out next month for the final race in the series.
Trout Lake was awesome for another reason--two dads enlisted their intrepid
Junior racers to join BBC's Fiona Graham in the full 40K distance. Local boys
Dalton Fetsch and Michael Paxson (Discover) were phenomenal additions to the
roster this month. And with a 1:13:04--Paxson was competitive with the big
boys--let's try to lure this one over from the mountain side of things!
Looking forward to seeing everyone out there next month for the final
Co-Motion Northwest Time Trial. Don't forget, if you are close in the points
standings you need to race the last race to qualify for the final drawing for the
grand prize!
