RE: Commuting route

Schreck, George

It will work, but take a bit more time. I commute by bicycle form the

bottom of the West side of Thompson to Downtown currently, and it is not

bad in terms of traffic. Actually, at rush hour I do not find them much

different, and the Thompson route has little traffic if it is not rush

hour. On the other hand, Susan's route does involve less climbing and

will be more mellow. The Thompson route is a good workout if you are in

the mind for that, and you have to punch it when you go through the two

short tunnels on Cornell (there is a bike path around them going up the

hill).

Less direct than George's route, but less traffic and easier climbing

over

the west hills:

West union east

Cornelius pass rd south

Amberwood east

Quick zig zag to Walker rd east

Brief sashay north on Cedar Hills

East on Park to stop

Quick right & left, over 217

Enter 26 bike path on left

26 bike path up and over Sylvan, cross 26 to North side,

Drop down into zoo

Kingston (?) all the way into downtown.

Most all of the on-road route though hillsboro/beaverton has a bike

lane.

YMMV.

Susan

Note: Could also take Cornelius Pass to Cornell and take that all the

way

into town. I don't like that route because I don't like the climb up

cornell - it's very heavily trafficked & the bike lane fades in and out.

The other way is a little longer but is a more pleasant ride.

Heya Guys,

A friend needs a good daily commuting route from the north plains area

(jackson hill/mason hill road) to downtown (market street). I've done

the

multinomah/sellwood bridge route but that takes him way too far south.

Any recommendations would be great!
