A lot of people told me not to bother, but if you stand your ground and
document everything you can win!
So if your bike is damage from an airline here the steps to follow -
1. Open your bike and inspect it within the 24 hour period after the flight
2. Take the bike to the baggage claim department (be polite) and show them
the damages; get names and file a report
3. Jump through their hoops; write letters, make phone calls ? they will try
and make it tough for you hoping you will go away
4. document, document, document everything ?names of everyone you talked too
and get an estimate of replacement/repair cost on invoice -don?t just call a
shop, get it in writing.
5. File a claim in small claims court, make sure everyone who you spoke
to is on that claim
6. Select the option to have police officer personally take the
subpoenas to the airline personal ? nothing gets the airline?s attention
better than having police officers show up to issuing a subpoena in front of
the public.
7. At this point the airlines SHOULD, I say SHOULD back down, at least
that?s what they did for me. United is sending a check to the court house
for payment of damages.
Time frame; the bike was damaged at the end of September 05 and I am just
setting now and it?s January 5, 2006.
It can be done, patients and not backing down will be your key to success.
Good luck
