Randy Dreiling
First off we try hard to get more women and support
more women racers...when I am around women at road
races, out on the trails, riding at Willamette Pass,
ect...I tell them about the races and I know other
race promoters and racers do. I always cheer on the
High School women and tell them you should race all
year.
OBRA membership period has a lot more men then women,
so it is not just mt Biking
There was good overall prize money for women last
year...need to ask Mike Ripley how much but no women
raced enough races. The money was there and it was on
the flyers, yet no women went after it.
I personally at the 12 Hour paid men and women the
same...at the FTF I paid based on number of Pro Women
racers...last year that number was zero...year before
that number was 4 and I paid top 3.
That means only one women did not get paid...kinda
crazy to pay 90% of the class...needs to be paid on a
% of racers.
Just to be clear there is no "Elite Women"
class...there is a "Pro women" and they are the only
ones that get paid.
Another issue in the past more at downhills then cross
country, but it still happens...it happened last
year...women that are sport level move up just because
they find out there are no Pro women and they know if
they move up they will get $$$...there really needs to
be a rule to stop this. Use to happen a lot in DH,
until we made a rule...same thing should happen in XC
to be safe.
With that said I have to tell you that 80% of the Pro
women racers say something like pay us what ever you
think is fair based on the number of women racers,
because I know there are a lot less women racing,
please do not put this back on the promoter this comes
from the women themselves.
I find this interesting...does road pay the same for
men and women??? from what I have been told they do
not.
I am thankful for the women racers and I sure the ones
that know me know I am.

Beat me to the punch Kori.
And, in addition to the FTF what about the race
series payouts? I'm all
for equal payouts but, as Randy mentioned earlier, I
don't know if a
single (elite) woman completed the entire mountain
series! (feel free to
correct me)
So, if we can con Randy into paying out an equal or
decent payout to the
elite women racers are you gonna race an entire
series? And bring ten of
your friends?
Please?
