I strongly agree with Shane. Sport riders are the equivalent of cat 4/5 on
the road. A beginner rider is the equivalent of a cat 5 on the road, sport
rider a cat 4. Expert riders are the equivalent of cat 3 and elates would be
cat 2's with pro's as cat 1's.

I would not equate a cat 2 roadie with a sport category rider, clearly a
mismatch. And most of the people I know that ride both MTB and road, if they are
experts they cat 3 riders, if they are elates, they are cat 2/3. I'll take
any Cat 2 roadie and feel pretty strongly that they could do pretty well against
sport riders.
