Cat 4 - Cherry Pie - 2 cents

I'll chime in. I'm not sure what the answer to this
is. I've been racing in the Cat 4's for several years
now and there seems to be problems of this sort all
the time. Despite all the warnings and pleadings on
the list serve and announcements by the officials at
the line up, there's always a few knuckleheads who
just don't get it. It's the same with centerline
violations. There were a couple of scofflaws who
blatantly broke that rule as well during the race.

Self policing and heavy penalties might be the best
options available to us. Maybe some of the guys who
end up in ambulances can make public service
announcements about how painful it is to skid across
asphalt at 30 mph? DQ'ing the lead group is probably a
good start.

I love to sprint and contest finishes but there's been
several races where I've backed off because it's just
to scary. I'm not willing to risk life and limb for
it. No one else should either.

Brice, I wish I'd been there to work with you, I think
you're on the right track. We need to make these races
harder at the end. I'd love if these races didn't come
down to mass sprints. Unfortunately, I was off the
back at that point.

Everyone, good luck in the future, please race safe,
and realize that winning isn't everything. Crashing
hurts.

The vibe in the lead group was not good. I tried to get the group to string
out with about 2k to go, but nobody else seemed to want to work with me (no
teammates yesterday) so I just drifted to the back of the group so I'd be
out of the mayhem that was sure to follow. Coasting in a few stragglers
passed me, but I was glad to see that there were no crashes. Sorry to hear
that it still wasn't clean.
