As I recall...I was hanging with the venerable Benenate group,
Cyclisme. (As far as "inspiration" for that course, gosh, I can't
remember! I'll bet it has something to do with John, though!) :-) .
Trivia note: We had a little scare a mere couple of weeks before the
event: the county hadn't had as much notice as we'd thought (through our
otherwise excellent staff delegatings!), so all of a sudden they were
saying "we're not sure we will allow it." John and I made the drive up
to St Helens to meet with several of the gun-totin' law dudes. They
were fine with it, just wanting to exert a bit of official pressure, I
believe.
(Doug, I think this was a bit after Bassett Press...by then they were
just sponsoring horses...?)
