I forgot to mention the Eric K race this Saturday. It will be going on even
though the track will not yet be painted.

Even though the weather still looks like winter the track season is about to
start at Alpenrose.

- Track painting - The weather cut short the painting of the velodrome on
the first track clean up day so we are going to give it a second try on
Saturday May 10. Hopefully it will be dry then. Chris King and company will
be there this time cooking pancake breakfast, assuming that the weather
forecast is not as miserable for the first day. We will start at 10:00 AM.

- This coming Thursday will be the first of the weekly Thursday evening
races. The first session will be Kilo night; everyone rides a 1 K TT for
time. The second session will be pursuit TTs. If there is rain then these
sessions will be pushed to the following weeks. For the TT nights we will
be starting 1/2 hour earlier at 6:00 PM to accommodate the usually larger
turn out and time consuming format. After we get done with the first 2
sessions all racing on Thursday will be mass start racing. The Thursday
schedule is at http://www.obra.org/track/flyers/2008/thursdays.html.

- Fast Twitch Fridays start this week. See
http://www.obra.org/track/flyers/2008/fast_twitch_fridays.html.

- Wednesday instructional classes for those who are new to the track are up
and running. See
http://www.obra.org/track/flyers/2008/wednesdays.html.

- If there are no other scheduled events we are going to have Madison
instructional and practice sessions every Saturday 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
These are going to be informal practice sessions to introduce people to
Madison exchanges and other techniques in a non-competitive setting. There
will be no charge or entry fee. Rental bikes will be available for $5 if
there is someone to check them out. I will need some help with running
these so if you are available let me know.

The track season is coming up on us rapidly. The first Wednesday session
will be April 26 with the weekly Thursday and Friday racing starting the
following week May 4 and 5. As usual the velodrome will need some
preparation. The riding surface is in pretty good shape but will need a bit
of repair. We also need to move computers, lap boards, bells, timing
systems, sponsor signs, etc. out of storage and down into the infield of the
track. We will need some help with all of this. Unfortunately scheduling
issues will keep us from doing all of this before the first sessions. So
here is my plan:

Monday April 17 3:00 PM - Move at least essential equipment, computers and
timing systems, into the registration building and judging stand. If there
is enough time and help we will put up sponsor signs.

Saturday May 6 10:00 AM - Track clean up day - Repair and paint track
surface, finish sign installation, clean and possibly paint stands,
buildings, railings, etc. We will start at 10:00 and go until we are done.
Feel free to come late, leave early. All help is appreciated.

We can use as much help as we can get both days. If you are available put
this on your schedule and come on out and help us get the track season off
to a great start.
