training in Paris?

I was in France for 6 wks on business in 1992. I stayed a couple of weeks in
St Germain en-Laye, and would ride my bike and train along the west side of
Paris by riding out towards Meulan on L'Avenue Chateaubriand along the Seine
river. At least then the traffic wasn't that bad on weekends, and I even
hooked up with a local team while riding out there. St Germain en-Laye is an
up-scale area with little crime or problems. With all the crazy riots over
there right now, I would be very careful about which suburbs you choose to
ride in. It's generally the reverse in France than in the US -- most 'burbs
are where the low income people are, and the inner city is more well-to-do.
I think if you stayed to the west near Versailles/St Germain en Laye and
along the north side of the Seine, you could find some good rides.

Bonne Chance,

Darell Provencher

Subject: [OBRA Chat] training in Paris?

I'm going to Paris for vacation for the month of May. Is it possible to
train in Paris without getting killed? Are there worthwhile routes? Or
should I just go to the gym and ride an excercycle?

Merci bien,

Ken

Bring your Bike Friday, Cycleops Trainer, and 20" Cyclops Trainer Extension or equivalent. I don't think it's possible to train in Paris without being killed. Seriously.

You will have to drive outside the city to train on the road, and driving is very dangerous, too. People walk long distances in Paris or ride the bus.

If you make it down south a bit to Besacon, there are some great areas to ride down there. I did several races in that area area.
