I was in France for 6 wks on business in 1992. I stayed a couple of
weeks in
St Germain en-Laye, and would ride my bike and train along the west
side of
Paris by riding out towards Meulan on L'Avenue Chateaubriand along
the Seine
river. At least then the traffic wasn't that bad on weekends, and I
even
hooked up with a local team while riding out there. St Germain
en-Laye is an
up-scale area with little crime or problems. With all the crazy riots
over
there right now, I would be very careful about which suburbs you
choose to
ride in. It's generally the reverse in France than in the US -- most
'burbs
are where the low income people are, and the inner city is more
well-to-do.
I think if you stayed to the west near Versailles/St Germain en Laye
and
along the north side of the Seine, you could find some good rides.
