D-I-Y Disc Wheel?

YES but also be sure to ask Mikkel about the time his "disc" disintrgrated while we were doing the six-day madison.

It developed a little hole, that let some air in, started flapping against his frame, got worse from there.

Five different methods:

It figures those wacko recumbent riders would do something like this.

The J-disk design wasn't challenged as a "wheel cover" at worlds
(although such things are subject to change), and I recall that
removable wheel covers were challenged at both Master's Nats and at
Worlds. I think the criterion was in fact whether the "cover" was
removable.

Besides that, and while I know that the removable covers are
generally just fine... they do occasionally come loose and cause a
lot of mischief. Never heard of that kind of thing with the J-disk
concept.

There's a hobby shop on N Interstate that has plastic "skin" for
model airplane construction. It's heat-shrink mylar. The same stuff
that Nosler's J-disks were made of. A pattern for cutting the stuff
is pretty easy (and intuitive), and gluing it to itself at the gusset
and to the rim are conceptually easy... if potentially really messy
should you not think through your clamping techique. I used a track
J-disk at Masters worlds and liked it a lot.

Does anyone out there know of a good source for information on
fabricating one's own disc wheels?

Something better than Saran Wrap over the spokes, but not costing
hundreds and hundreds of $$$?
