It looks like Jeremy VanSchoonhoven has qualified to represent the US for
Junior AND Senior Worlds in the Observed Trials by winning the Juniors and
placing 3rd in the US Pro's. Now all he needs to do is get there as it
doesn't look as if his is a funded position.

The top four riders from each stock and modified junior and pro class at the
1999 NORBA National Trials Championships in Mount Snow, Vermont are eligible
to compete in the 2000 UCI World Championships.
The winner of the stock and modified classes for junior and pro at the Sea
Otter Classic Trials competition will be added to the World Championship
Team.
All qualified athletes will receive a letter of invitation and will have to
return it to the Trials Team Manager before the deadline. If an athlete
declines his or her position, alternate athletes will not be invited.
Selection procedures for World Championship final preparation camp (junior)
Automatic Qualification:
Any athlete who qualified for 1999 World Championship and is still junior
age group
Any athlete who met the following performance criteria at 1999 NCS and is
still a junior:
Women cross-country and downhill top two.
Men cross-country and downhill top five.

2000 World Mountain Bike Championships Qualification Procedures
Primary Goal: Select and prepare the U.S. athletes most capable of producing
medal-winning performances at the World Championships.
USA Cycling will fund riders in the following categories: elite
cross-country men and women, espoire cross-country men, junior cross-country
men and women, and junior downhill men and women.
In 2000, the United States can take the following number of athletes in each
discipline to the Mountain Bike World Championships: XC Elite men and U 23
Five, XC Junior women Six, XC Elite women and Junior men Seven, DH Men and
Women Seven, Dual slalom Men and Women Seven., Observed Trials Ten Juniors
and Ten Elite
Therefore, World Championship teams will be limited to athletes who have
proven, through results, the ability to finish in the top 20 at a strong,
international competition, with emphasis on the World Cups. Athletes
qualifying via automatic criteria will be considered as having demonstrated
this ability. For some events and categories, all spots may not be filled.
For all events: Cross-country, Downhill, Dual Slalom and Observed Trials,
only those athletes who automatically qualify for the World Championship, or
are nominated by the National Coach can represent the United States at the
2000 Mountain Bike World Championship.
Alternates may be selected in each discipline. Alternates will be
prioritized and may be selected to replace a qualified or nominated athlete.
Elite Cross-country: Men and Women
Automatic Qualification by order of priority (funded by USA Cycling):
Any U.S. rider finishing in the top 10 in a 2000 World Cup cross-country
race by May 28
Top three U.S. riders in 2000 World Cup rankings on May 28, if they are
ranked in the top 20.
Olympic Long Team members
Additional athletes may be selected based on the following principles of
discretion:
A history of strong performance in international elite competition
Recent improvement in international and/or elite domestic results
Performance capability on the 2000 World Mountain Bike Championship course
Under-23 Cross-country: Men born 1978-81
Automatic Qualification by order of priority (funded by USA Cycling):
Any under-23 rider finishing in the top 40 elite in a 2000 World Cup cross
country race by May 28
Any under-23 rider finishing in the top 10 elite in a 2000 NCS cross country
race by May 28
Olympic Long Team members
Additional athletes may be selected based on the following principles of

A history of strong performance in international elite or under-23
competition
Recent improvement in international and/or elite domestic results

and include also ability to perform in a 20 to 30 minute race.
