Re: OT- Social Hour at the Squat Rack

My brother teaches high school too, he notices the same thing. On average the girls are way outperforming boys. Ok there are always a couple boys that are top of the class, overachievers, but for the most part the girls are doing much better.

There is a reason for it and its not necessarily just the lack of male influence. The reason has been identified for quite a while now, but its not media friendly nor politically correct in the US. Keep in mind the author, Christine Sommers is a feminist but also became the mother of two boys...

I read it 6 years ago, its an easy read, and well researched. I think what she says for the most part rings true and should be required reading by all teachers and parents.

Read some of the reviews too..

Yes. In my club they have a TV and lounge chairs in the locker room. the
TV is always on and the chairs filled.

Look around, more and more guys are NOT working out. I think more women
ARE.

We are in middle of a crisis. I teach high school and last semester I had 8
students with 25 percent or less in class. All guys. One day a student (a
very overweight guy) was more than 60 minutes late. His reason: He fell
asleep at Wendy's after having lunch.

I think it was last summer the Oregonian published an article about how more
and more women are becoming doctors, lawyers etc. More guys are college
drop outs.

It would be easy to call them LAZY. Really I think it has a lot to do with
a lack of male influence in the home.
