Dirk, his son had a nice shrine of Frans' pal mares in the store a few years
ago. Not sure if it is still up, but it was impressive.

I was amazed at how much the man accomplished in his youth, not to mention
the number of national titles he earned as a Master.

I am sure others have more details than I.

What about Frans Pauwels, who owned Kissler's Bicycles in Beaverton and I
believe helped to build Alpenrose?

He raced in the Tour in 1948 and 1949, before he moved from Belgium to the
U.S.

He died about ten years ago, but I can't remember the date.
