Re: ...to consider

As a promoter I can say that recording the number on each and every bike is
not gonna happen. Period.

Evan and Jean are both dead on right!

* Take a few minutes to record the serial numbers of you bike(s).
* Save all receipts for all personal property and home improvements.
* Get a Rider in your insurance for replacement cost on your bikes, it
pays off. I used it to replace a bent bike after I was hit by an uninsured
motorist.
* Store the information in several places, but it is best to have a
copy in a safe deposit box at your bank.

Don't rely on the bike shop to have easy access to your serial number
information, they all have it, but the time it takes to dig it up and is not
always the shops top priority. Bikes can be recovered if they are reported,
nothing is more satisfying than busting a bike thief.

I recently sent out a flyer to my clients with tips on this type of personal
security, send me note and I will forward a copy to you.

I have a phone with picture and text capabilities. I have pics of my racing
bikes stored on my phone, and serial numbers. This way if I am away from
home or out of town and a bike gets stolen, I have the numbers right there,
handy-dandy. It's not just my words against a thief's.

I do keep a record of all my bikes in an excel spreadsheet on my laptop. It
includes serial numbers and a complete parts spec. Yeah, I know it's kinda
anal, but between my wife and I, and all my old Schwinns too, we have a lot
of bikes.
