My son had a bike stolen a few years back. Having a bit of OCD I had the
serial number handy so we made a police report figuring it was a waste of
time. A couple weeks latter the thief is pulled over driving a stolen car
full of bikes, also probably stolen. Sean's bike was the only one with a
serial number on a police report so we got it back pretty quickly.
This of course caused be to become even more compulsive so I stored the
serial numbers of all bikes in the family in multiple locations. In doing
this I found that most track bikes don't have serial numbers.
