Tillamook to Lincoln City Area:
If you don't mind a big climb (paved), and a couple of miles of packed gravel later, the least traveled, and most scenic route is west out of Carlton. You start out on Meadowlark, then have a big climb up to and past McGuire reservoir, then start down the other side following the Nestucca River on the Blaine Rd. You come out on Hwy 101 in Beaver. Hood to Coast took this route 20 years ago when they used to finish in Pacific City. 101 is narrow and busy, but you can ride a few miles north and then head west over to the 3 Capes Scenic Route. It starts down by Pacific City, and you can take it north through Netarts, Oceanside past Cape Meares to Tillamook. Great road. 18 and 22 aren't bad over to the Lincoln and Pacific City area, but a road to avoid is the bypass through Sheridan and Willamina. It looks good on the map, but is worse than staying on the highway, narrow and lots of trucks. If you do take 18, a good side road is North Bank road at Rose Lodge. Jump on that and connect back into 18 at Otis, or take the old scenic highway north to Neskowin. I've ridden all of these, if you have any questions give me a shout.
Have a good ride,
Dave
