Have you considered re-defining what "novice" means? I see names on this
list that were riding novice *last* season as well. Which maybe means they
aren't novices anymore. If they are "seasoned" riders, or newer riders
winning points on a regular basis, why not ask them to move up to Open
Women?

That will increase the numbers riding in the open category (and improve the
skills of the riders moving up) and at the same time be in keeping with why
(I think) the novice category was created in the first place - to be a
learning experience for new riders.

Just my thoughts....
