Dear all,
Here's same report minus photo because several got bounced back.
After doing some reconnaissance the day before on the tough Orroir circuit
(and riding the famed Ronde V an Vlaanderen climbs of the Oude Kwaremont and
Patersberg), the USA Jr 15/16 team made the return trek today and came away
with another dominating performance. The team plan was to conserve in the
opening small flat circuits and then attack the last four big circuits which
incorporated the challenging 1.5 km Kluisberg climb. Early on, one Belgian
guy rode solo to an impressive two minute gap, but first Cody Foster bridged
up forcefully and, not long after, Jacob Rathe and Ian Boswell came storming
up to make a lead group of four. Scooping up primes and KOM points, Team USA
had strength AND numbers in their favor. On the final climb, Cody Foster
drove it to the top and dropped the Belgian and then the three fought out an
honest sprint to take one-two-three and another USA 15/16 bouquet! A minute
later, Charlie Avis shredded what was left of the field to take fifth and
Ian Moir sprinted hard out of the pack to take 13th. Both Adam Leibovitz and
Joel Shaffer rode aggressively in the f irst half before dropping off the
pace later in the race. A bad luck puncture on the second lap cost AJ Meyer
all opportunity for a a good day.
The team is riding so well that the time has come to split them up for the
coming weekend races in Hooglede and Izegem. Tomorrow, the team travels to
the outdoor track in Brugge to do some track training and experienced
tracksters Ian Moir, Adam Leibovitz, Jacob Rathe and Joel Shaffer will do an
evening competition as well.
I can't say enough good things about these kids. They are heads-up bike
racers and they are team players with a strong sense of doing what needs to
be done around the House. Chapeau!
In the coming days, go to http://velowallon.be/ and scroll down right side
to "debutants" to see all recent results.
