Brett's Ghost Bike

Earlier today my friend Corey, who goes by our friend Brett Jarolimek's Memorial every day on his bike commute, called me to let me know that the ghost bike is gone. It was there last night and gone this morning.

Needless to say, this is very upsetting.

From Corey's description, it sounded like the bike was not taken away in care. The bike was gone, but a few of the remembrances were left behind( scattered?) . Corey gathered what was left and rebuilt what he could of the memorial.

Corey just left a post about this on Brett's bikeportland.org Remembrances page:

I don't know the protocol for ghost bikes- how long they stay up, and where all of the items that are left in memorial go to eventually. I had hoped this bike, and others, would stay up indefinitely.

It's hard to imagine that any ghost bike would ever be stolen. If so in this case, it's hard to fathom someone stooping so low.

Does anybody know anything more about this?

We miss you, Brett. Every day.

Steve
