I don't know if its the good weather again, or if motorists are just angry because they are stuck in their cars or what. I was working a safety fair last week and had several people come up and ask me when we (I'm a police officer) are going to start writing cyclists tickets. The first person that said this to me I figured was just a grumpy motorist who had a bad experience or something...but after hearing from several people throughout the day it was starting to bother me. I always asked them what they saw or were concerned about...the major complaint was cyclists cutting across roads riding the wrong way to avoid traffic lights and or just running lights or stop signs....If you ride around Murray Blvd and Jenkins in Beaverton this was a major bitch by folks...well I know that couldn't be any of my spandex clad friends as we all stop at lights/signs to practice our track stands and then work on our jumps when the light turns green....right?!?!?!? So I asked them of all the cyclists they saw committing infractions how many motorists did they see do the same....Always it was more motorists...So I follow that up with the number of cyclists versus motorists on the road would you agree that percentage wise the infractions observed are roughly the same in relation to the numbers on the roadway....the answer in generally a slow yeah.
That being said....cars see us when we do something illegal like running a light or riding the wrong way....for some reason if we cyclists do something wrong we are all a bunch of non tax paying, traffic law breaking hoodlums whose sole purpose is to wreak havoc on the streets....of course the 10 other motorist that also commit an infraction aren't an issue just the bikes....my thoughts on this be safe out there some of people are just plain a**holes and it doesn't matter who is on the bike.

Cobra Kai also had experience with angry pickup driver this weekend. Cobra Kai and friend were racing for yellow sign at 15mph only to be buzzed by hillbilly. Cobra Kai practiced great karate patience and made no moves of anger. At stop sign Cobra Kai saw hand extend out of cab with middle finger raised. What did Cobra Kai do to deserve this treatment? Cobra Kai loves his spandex but knows that hillbilly did not enjoy the sight of Kai's finely toned calves and clean shaven legs. Cobra Kai urges other members of OBRA community to get "Share the Road" license plates and perhaps make a petition to change the drivers test to include more safety features for bicyclists.Cobra Kai also wonders when Silver Dollar nightclub started serving sandwiches?? Cobra Kai also wonders why someone would meet their wife at a strip club for drinks? Cobra Kai finds THAT situation hilarious. No one touches the prima donna until the tournament. Is that understood? YES, SENSEI._______________________________________________OBRA mailing listobra@list.obra.orghttp://list.obra.org/mailman/listinfo/obraUnsubscribe: obra-unsubscribe@list.obra.org
