Yes, I know some people ride there. Many other drive. But, that's not
the point. Carbon offsets are about carbon emitters "purchasing" the
right to pollute. Sellers of offsets are generate them from
emissions-reducing projects, like a wind farm. The sale of offsets are
supposed to provide funds to encourage those emissions-reducing
industries to thrive.
A bike race is not a carbon reducing industry that should be benefitting
from funds for carbon offsets. That's what's wrong with it.

Tons of people ride to PIR. Those of us that can't probably have
legitimate reasons. I think this is what providing corporations the
opportunity to buy carbon offsets is all about. Before this, we didn't
have prize money, now we do. What's wrong with that?
