No offense to anyone, but if the problem is the pedal comes off the
spindle, that's because the securing bolt/screw came loose and fell
out.

Those bolts come with thread-lock on them, and I would be willing to
bet anyone who's lost a pedal off the spindle did so after they'd
overhauled the pedals and didn't re-apply thread-lock.

So if you crack open those pedals to lube them up, you've got to keep
an eye on the bolts, or use thread lock if you're not gonna monitor it
regularly.

For what it's worth, I've had my stainless steel eggbeaters for at
least five years now and have had no trouble, but I learned to be
mindful of the bolts until I splurged the $5 and bought some thread
lock.
