MessageI agree with you Mike. He should feel sending the information to the company is the right thing. It gives them the knowledge regarding their product and if they are ethical they will give an honest reply. It has nothing to do with new product, but honesty. If they redesign and the product costs more, but lasts longer... that is good for most users.
I know Brian and he has NO ill intentions on this company.
I do know that I have abused my Time ATAC pedals as much as anyone has their eggbeaters and all I have to do is spray them off and start the next ride. Eggbeaters are thus not in my future. As heavy as my Tmes are (compared to eggbeaters) my pedals have never broken in any way shape or form. I am sure rider feedback helped with the design of the ATACs.
So... good feedback to Crank Bros. just helps them make there pedal design that much better.

One would think that the manufacturer might welcome feedback on common failure modes of their product so that they can consider a redesign to improve the product ... or planned failure to increase sales. Public discussion of failures and notification of the vendor and manufacturer can only help to improve the process by encouraging redesign and discouraging sales of failure prone designs. Liability issues, in this thread at least, seem to be brought up mostly by those suggesting that it is not needed. The liability system. although seriously flawed, is one of the things that controls the release of defective products to the market. Would you prefer that this be done more by regulation?

Between the comment...'a good argument for why we shouldn't cap punitive damages on wrongful-injury lawsuits'...to the comment 'so far I found 6 people myself...I'm going to write a letter'...give me a break! Whah, whah whah....life is so unfair.
I wish I could spend time this morning trying to find a way a way to sue someone and win the lottery so I don't have to work or get something for free from a manufacturer, but I don't have the time. I'm too busy earning a living for myself and my family.

We know they occasionally fail. It's not life threatening, right?It sounds to me like you are considering a lawsuit.
I like my eggbeaters light and cheap. Lawsuits don't accomplish that.

So far, I have 6 people, including myself, who have had their Crank Brothers Pedals fail while riding. Although, 2 of us feel it was our own fault due. I'm going to write a letter to Crank Brother's support and ask if this is something that we need to be aware of.
If you have had similar problems with Crank Brothers, please send me an email offline. I'll add you to our total.
Problem: pedal comes off the spindle while riding.
