Having a pedal come apart can be one of the most dangerous failures on a
bike. And there's something about the design of those pedals that's not
right; I use ATACs, and I'm sure they've broken at some point, somewhere,
but I've never even heard of that. On the other hand, I've seen firsthand at
least a dozen broken Crank Brothers pedals just at Oregon 'cross races. I've
seen candy and eggbeater pedals lying on the course, and more than a few
racers finishing with only the spindle still attached. This is purely based
on observation, but the failure rate of crank brothers pedals seems to be
much higher than for any other pedals and most other parts in general (well,
maybe SRM head unit mounting brackets fail at a higher rate). If I had some,
I'd want to write a letter too.
