When I lived in Houston there was a HUGE rash of bike thefts of High End

bikes. It turns out what the thieves were doing was following people home

that had nice bikes and then would return later and break in and steal the

bike(s). So keep an eye out for suspicious activity while youre out riding

on your way home!

Second, this past week in Phoenix, I returned home to find that our house had

been robbed. Most electrical things in the home plus some personal items,

watches, Belt and buckle ($650.00) 500+ cd's etc were taken. What was

surprising is that my New KHS Flite 100 with Look Pedals, Dura-ace hubs and

CXP33 rims was left behind. Go figure!

Over the past few weeks I and, I would believe others have noticed this

problem of ours, the bicycle theft in this area is really bad right now. I

myself have taken all 3 of my bikes out of my garage and storage closet (in a

second floor of my apartment) and put them inside. I ride a trek 5900 and

just built up a rain bike. I live in gresham and live in a decent apartment

complex. I used to feel safe but now with all these nice bikes being stolen,

I don't even take the chance and always leave my bike inside. I know for

some of you in OBRA land that it is hard to do that. But here are a few tips

I thought up to keep your bike safer. For all the commuters out there, keep

a look out, not only for your bike but for others. I notice a lot as I ride

through downtown everyday, lots of different bikes, but I try to always watch

to make sure someone is un-locking their bike, not ripping one off. If you

have to leave your bike in your garage or somewhere else not so safe, lock it

up or do something to inhibit a thief from stealing it, at least save your

frame. If your gonna leave your bike on top of your car or in your car, make

sure you can see it from where you are going or check it every 10 or 15

minutes, and make sure to lock it down. I hope this helps. like a lot of

other people(I hope), we here at kissler's have been keeping track of stolen

bikes, if one turns up here, we will let you know.

Happy New Year,
