Re: Cyclo cross pedals

Time ATAC pedals I have used for over five years have required the massive maintenance work of spraying them off after races and then riding on next race. I see people love their CB pedals, but would like to hear about all the failures of TIME pedals.... as in probably very few? I mean how great is it to just put the pedals on and ride and not worry about making sure you get them serviced. They also are a very good platform for supporting your shoe/foot and clean out as well as CB pedals. Go figure.

That's too bad and I sympathize with your injury and recovery.but that is the complete opposite experience I have had with Crank Brothers pedals..where I have not torn up a tendon because of other pedals, I have sustained injury due their inadequate design and operational characteristics.from crashes I had because I could not get out, to crashes I had because I could not get in to the pedal. To ripped up shins from missing engagement while trying to pedal hard during a race environment...over all I have been riding CB pedal since they hit the market a number of years back and honestly, I can only recommend them to anyone..they by far outperform other brands and engagement types.and the cost is very reasonable in comparison to other brands.

As with ANY product out there someone somewhere is going to have a problem that they associate with the given product.

FYI I am not a Crank Brothers employee or sell them in anyway..

There was a recent thread on OBRA just a few weeks ago regarding this type of failure being fairly common with these pedals. I do know I've seen quite a few broken Crank Brothers pedals at 'cross races--purely observation on my part, but I think they're the only type of pedal I've ever seen come apart mid-race. I personally know half a dozen OBRA-ites who've had this happen, at least one of whom has had it happen twice during 'cross races.

I love Time ATACs myself.

Absolutely the pedal not to touch is the Crank Brothers Egg Beater. This was responsible for a devastating injury last year at Horning's Hideout. My foot came out of the pedal with no warning and my knee hit the handle bar completely rupturing my quadriceps tendon and requiring major surgery and a year of rehab. I have discussed this with others who agree the culprit was the Crank Brothers pedal. I cannot vouch for their other models but I would steer far away from anything with their name on it.

Still paying the price
