Provencher, Darell
My apologies for the typo. In 1986, 7-Eleven became the first US trade team
ever to compete in the Tour de France, of which Chris Carmichael was a team
member.
For more information on American riders in the TdF, see

Thanks,
-- Darell

Carmichael was the first American to race in the Tour de France.
Says who? And you believe it? He rode in 1986 and was dnf.
Lemond was 3rd in 1984 and 2nd in 1985.
The FIRST American to race TdF was Jonathan Boyer.
He FINISHED 32nd in 1981, 23rd in 1982, 12th in 1983,
31st in 1984 and 98th in 1987. He had FOUR completions
before Carmichael tried and failed. Boyer was the keynote
speaker for Race Across Oregon kickoff last year.
