A while back, an e-mail came across that contained a quote from a journalist that stated something to the effect that cyclists are an easy group to goad, much like a cat chasing a string. I think we have seen evidence to that today.

As for myself, since I already know who will win all the master's races this year, I don't think I'll even race. I'll drive the wheel car and follow the master's races. I'll get one of those orange traffic cones and yell through it at the riders: "Don't be afraid to break a sweat out there, guys!"

Seriously, though, I really will drive the wheel car at some races. Without the coaching.

Have fun.

have some fun at the first race of the year.....

OK Flash,

I normally leave the bantering on the group to others and sit back and

enjoy the messages, but your pompous message pissed me off. I am wondering

why a racer of your caliber didn't take charge of the race, force the pace,

make some attacks. I wasn't there, but the Masters races I did make it to,

had me suffering the entire time. I'm assuming that you at some point just

rode away from all those slow, pathetic Masters riders for an easy victory.

I'd like to know what race it was. Hope to see YOU at the Cherry Pie race!

Back to the subject of the Bakersfield race:

If it's the same course I raced on several years ago (I hate to say how many

exactly), it's actually an excellent course up in the foothills of the

Sierras. It can be hot, but it not as bad as down in the valley (where

Bakersfield proper is). The Southern California RR Championships were held

there several times.

(On the other hand, my memory is a little shabby and it could have been a

flat course in the valley with only oil derricks as shade ...).

Steve,

How nice of a hardened veteran like yourself to take the time to refresh us

all on racing fundamentals. I was starting to get a little forgetful about

that hard pedaling part. You may find that our kiddie kilo features some

very agressive (sic) racing, and may provide a challenge worthy of your

training rides.

To all those complaining about Bakersfield: be careful, you will also have

to pedal hard, and you might even get out of breath a little. Bicycle

racing is a hard sport, deal with it. Although, the only Masters Race that

I entered in Oregon last year was so pathetically slow & unagressive that I

thought that I was on a local training ride (Oops, those are much harder)

Oh gee steve you are such a stud. Ever heard of making the race? Why

are you letting others dictate your race? Bicycle racing is a hard

sport, deal with it.
