Yeah, I will get something much smaller. Thanks for the suggestions.
You ever see that milk commercial with the cyclist towing a cow, and
he is barley turning the pedals, pushing as hard as he can? That's
me in the big hills with the 42x17. Mark Godfrey had me use that
gear on Terwilliger several years ago, and I never changed it. He
is quite a strong kid.

Erik,
That is a big gear, be kind to your knee's and go to a smaller gear.
I would suggest to ride a 62' to 66' gear and stay with the
"rolling hills".

Speaking of fixed gear, I've got a 42x17 on mine right now. It's
just to damn big for my puny legs on the rides I do. I like to ride
Thompson, Skyline, and Old Germantown road. I think I could handle
it on most of Thompson and Skyline, but Old G just makes me barf
every time.

Ride a fixed gear in this nasty weather, and you won't have as many
maintenance problems! Also, you won't have the problem with all that
grey alluminum that drips off the rims onto your floor after rides, due
to brake use in the grimy wet. You'll be using your legs instead of
brake pads!
