I've replied to "all" since this is a "typical" problem.
Is the battery in the display unit dead or is it the
pickup unit? It's hard to tell sometimes. The fastest
way is to see if someone else's display starts up with
your pickup unit.
Since both units are sealed, I would advise you to
send it back to the factory. I sent mine back to Polar USA
and got it back in less than ten days. Here is their URL:
