OBRA: OBRA Chat: PIR Question

The PIR races are not criteriums. Criterium courses are generally under 1

mile and usually have several corners. Criteriums may be run by time or by

laps. The PIR events are circuit races. The course is nearly 2 miles long.

The turns are wide open curves rather than the tight corners usually seen in

crits. Racing at PIR is done by laps. In a criterium riders who are on

different laps may work together. At PIR lapped riders are allowed to

continue but they are expected to not affect the race.

Racing starts at 6:30. I'll have a race flyer out soon that will explain

more things. For now the dates are:

May Series, 2002

Dates: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th

June series, 2002

Dates: 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th

July Series, 2002

Dates: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th

August Series, 2002

Dates: 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th

September Series, 2002

Dates: 2nd and 9th only

You should give it a try its a blast and a real friendly atmosphere.

Portland International Speedway. I'm in the process of putting up an archive

of old race flyers on the web but here's some info on LAST YEARS series. I

imagine it will be similar.

I'm not sure about Mondays...but Tuesday night races basically got longer as

we went into the season and peaked around the longest day of the year (more

light).

Monday nights they are for masters and women 30-39, 40-49, & 50+, they

start at 6:30 on Monday

Tuesday night is by category cat 4/5 at 6:15, Cat 3/4 at 6:30 and Cat 1/2/3
