Brian,
Getting that data is fairly involved because of all the sources of
money and how they are spent. For instance, the State collects a gas
tax but so do a number of cities and counties. Then you would need
to research where property taxes are being used for transportation,
what cities have transportation utility fees, which cities are using
revenue from utility franchise fees, parking revenue, state and
county vehicle registration fees, etc. On top of all that you would
need to find out who is charging transportation system development
charges and at what level. Then you'd need to find out expenditures
by private developers on transportation infrastructure. So you see,
it is quite the research project. It would be incredibly valuable
information, but we don't have the capacity to do the research
ourselves.
I understand there was a report put out by the Victoria
Transportation Institute over a decade ago, but I'm not sure if that
was specific to Canada.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Best regards,
Karl
